Donald Trump says he has a ‘framework of a future deal’ on Greenland. The president said on Truth Social that he and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte have a “solution” that, “if consummated, will be a great one for the United States of America and ALL NATO nations.”
- Asked if the deal would lead to the U.S. owning Greenland, Trump paused for several seconds, then said: “It’s a long-term deal. It’s the ultimate long-term deal. And I think it puts everybody in a really good position.”
- Reporters asked Rutte for details. He said: “Read the Truth Social post.”
- The announcement came just hours after a speech in which Trump said he wouldn’t seize Greenland by force, threatened to retaliate against European allies and told Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney that he’d better watch his mouth.
- Trump repeatedly mixed up Greenland and Iceland during his speech. Karoline Leavitt said he didn’t.
