President Donald Trump wrote a scathing criticism of the Supreme Court on Tuesday, condemning its Monday decision to stop the U.S. Postal Service from implementing a rule that would change the mail-in voting process nationwide.
“Republicans just got another bad decision from the United States Supreme Court, one that the Court System took forever to give, and then blamed it, in part, on no time left to implement a solution to our totally CORRUPT and out of control Mail-In voting ‘disaster,’ which is a laughing stock all over the World,” the president wrote on Truth Social.
Monday’s decision to halt the final rule, which was based on a March executive order from Trump, is yet another loss for the president as he attempts to tighten restrictions on voting before the midterms.
The final rule would have required states to overhaul their mail-in voting systems on a tight deadline that would have cost money, time and resources that many election officials argued they did not have. It would also require the USPS to roll out an untested portal to collect the personal information of all eligible voters, although postal officials who spoke with The Washington Sun and a whistleblower emphasized that the system would not be ready in time for the midterms.

The Supreme Court has six Republican appointees, half of whom were appointed by Trump himself. Only justices Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas dissented on Monday, while the remainder of the high court ruled in favor of halting the final rule less than two months before the midterm elections.
“These are not the people I interviewed to serve on the United States Supreme Court,” Trump wrote. “They are merely a shell of their original selves, a Court that is costing the United States Trillions of Dollars with shockingly bad rulings that are of such magnitude that it won’t be easily possible for our Country to recover or heal.”
Justice Brett Kavanaugh wrote in his decision, “There is at least a fair prospect that
the final rule falls within the Postal Service’s statutory authority.” While Kavanaugh did agree that there was not enough time before the midterms, there is still a chance that the Supreme Court may allow Trump to implement the changes before the 2028 election.
Trump acknowledged that his criticism of the court, which included its other decisions against the president on birthright citizenship and tariffs, “will likely cost me dearly for years to come.”
